Les Cayes, Haiti - An estimated 5000 demonstrators, angry at rising food costs (see last post) chanted anti-government slogans as they looted food from trucks and businesses and tried to burn down a U.N. base as police "watched helplessly". Graffiti declaring "Down with the expensive life!" has been reported to be appearing throughout Port-au-Prince.

Paris, France - Hundreds of youth broke away from a march of several thousand, mostly high school students, protesting teacher job cuts, to attack stores, hurling rocks and bottles at police. High school students were also very active in the anti-CPE riots in France in 2006. About 100 high schools around the country were blocked or disrupted by protests Thursday.
