Basque Country, Spain - Street violence erupted in the Basque region following a ruling by Spain's supreme court that outlawed three Basque youth groups and declared them to be terrorist organizations. Police have already arrested four out of 23 newly convicted members of the groups Jarrai, Haika and Segi and have promised that the other 19 will soon be taken into custody.

The groups are accused of functioning as a lighter version of the armed struggle Basque nationalist separatist organization E.T.A. They are blamed for frequent acts of vandalism and sabotage targeting banks and government buildings in the region. Youths armed with petrol bombs barricaded off streets, fought police and damaged political party offices following the verdict. Three arrests were made during these disturbances.
