Valparaiso, Chile - Violent clashes between demonstrators and police broke out earlier than expected as students and other protesters prepare to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the US backed fascist coup d'état of General Augusto Pinochet. Pinochet overthrew the democratically elected President Salvador Allende on September, 11th 1973. During Pinochet's 17-year rule thousands of dissidents were murdered or "disappeared," tens of thousands of people were arrested or otherwise abused.
