Nigeria - The third prison riot to strike Nigeria in the past four days broke out in the southwestern town of Abeokuta after warders attempted to conduct a search for weapons. Inmates resisted and were attacked by guards who used "non-lethal" chemical weapons. Two prisoners died and seven others suffered serious injuries. Prison riots are common in the country, which has many overcrowded prisons.
